Accessibility Statement
Last updated: August 2, 2026
Accessibility is part of how we build. A fast, well-structured website should work for everyone — including people who navigate by keyboard, use a screen reader or voice control, or set their browser to reduce motion or enlarge text. This statement covers the standard we aim for, what we do, and how to tell us when something falls short.
The standard we aim for
We build this website, and the sites we deliver for clients, toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Accessibility is an ongoing effort rather than a one-time checkbox, so we treat it as something we keep testing and improving over time.
What we do
- Semantic HTML and a logical heading structure, so assistive technology can navigate the page in a sensible order.
- Keyboard-operable navigation with a visible focus state on interactive elements.
- Text and controls checked for sufficient colour contrast against their background.
- Descriptive alternative text on meaningful images, and labels on every form field.
- Respect for the system “reduce motion” setting — animations are minimised or removed when it is on.
- Responsive layouts that keep working when the page is zoomed or the text size is increased.
Known limitations
Some third-party or embedded content — for example external maps, video players, or widgets — may not fully meet these guidelines, because we do not control their code. Where we rely on such content, we pick the most accessible option available and aim to provide another way to get the same information or reach us.
Our brand accent — a warm persimmon — meets AA contrast at large sizes, where it is used for headings, graphics, and calls to action. On a few small labels and solid buttons its contrast sits just under the 4.5:1 AA threshold for body-size text; we keep those uses limited and always pair them with clear, readable labels, and we are refining the exact tone.
Tell us if something isn’t working
If you hit an accessibility barrier on this site — or on a site we built for you — please email nicholas@makeandupdate.com with the page address and a short description of the problem. We take these reports seriously, usually reply within one business day, and will work with you to provide the information or function you need in another way while we fix the underlying issue.
