Who is Nicholas Cabel?

By Nicholas Cabel West Chester, Pennsylvania June 2026

I'm Nicholas Cabel, and I build websites for a living. By hand, one project at a time, from West Chester, Pennsylvania.

MakeAndUpdate is a studio of one. That isn't a limitation I'm apologizing for; it's the entire point. When you hire me, you work with the person who actually designs the layout, writes the code, and ships the site. No account managers, no handoffs, no "let me check with the team." One builder, accountable for the whole thing.

What I actually do

I design, build, and maintain fast websites for small businesses: restaurants, salons, local service shops, and the occasional software product. I work in WordPress and Shopify when they're the right tool, and I hand-code in HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript when a site needs to be lighter and faster than a page builder will ever allow. Sub-second load times aren't a tagline here; they're a floor I refuse to ship below.

How I work

Direct. You talk to me, I reply within a business day, and you always know where your project stands. I'd rather do a few things exceptionally well than a hundred things adequately. Most of my clients are local (the Main Line, Chester County, the businesses I can drive to), and a few are anywhere with a connection.

I build in public

I share the work as it happens: the builds, the problems, the small wins. If you want to see how a site actually comes together, before the polished case study, follow along.
