.com vs .co vs .net.

By Nicholas Cabel The 60-second version lives on Instagram

A .com, a .co, and a .net can all point to the exact same business name, but they are not interchangeable. People assume .com without thinking about it, which means anything else quietly loses you traffic.

In plain English

Think of the ending like a house number nobody double-checks. Most people just walk to the address they assume is right, which is almost always the .com, and they never notice the .co next door.

Three things to know

01

.com is the default people assume

Type a business name into a browser and .com is the guess nine times out of ten.

02

.co gets mistyped as .com

A visitor who means to reach you can land on a stranger's site instead.

03

.net works, just less expected

It reads as legitimate, but it is still the second choice in most people's heads.

Worth remembering

People are 3.8 times more likely to assume a URL ends in .com, so anything else sends some traffic to the wrong door.

That gap is not a preference; it is a habit built over decades of typing addresses. A domain that fights the habit gives away visitors before they ever see your site.

What to do about it

If your domain is not a .com, some of your traffic is landing somewhere else entirely without you knowing it. Get a free website audit and I will help you sort out what your domain is actually costing you.
