Website redesign

Website redesign for small businesses.

I redesign small-business websites that look dated, load slowly, or do not bring in calls. I keep what already works, like the pages Google sends people to, and rebuild the rest to load fast and turn visitors into customers. You get a fixed quote before any work begins and a first look at the new site within 24 hours.

What you get.

  1. A design built to convert. Rebuilt around what your customers came to do: call, book, buy, or find you.
  2. Fast on every phone. Lean, hand-built pages that load quickly on the phones most of your visitors use.
  3. Your Google traffic kept. Pages that already rank keep their addresses where possible, and anything that moves gets a redirect.
  4. Clear, local copy. Plain words about what you do, where, and how to reach you, plus a simple dashboard to edit it yourself.

Who it’s for.

  1. Businesses whose site looks dated next to competitors or was built on a template years ago.
  2. Owners whose site gets visitors but few calls or bookings.
  3. Anyone stuck on a slow page builder or theme that fights every change.

Redesign or repair? I will tell you which

Not every dated website needs to be rebuilt. Sometimes the fix is lighter images, a clearer headline, and a phone number people can tap. Sometimes the site sits on a slow page builder or a theme that fights every change, and patching it costs more than starting fresh. I start with a free audit of your current site and give you a straight answer, with a fixed quote for whichever one makes sense.

Signs a redesign is the better value: the site is hard to use on a phone, it takes more than a few seconds to load, you cannot change anything without calling someone, or it no longer matches the business you run today.

A redesign I did: Maxima Hair at 555

Maxima Hair at 555 is a salon in Berwyn, on the Main Line. Its old site was a bare template. I rebuilt it around one question, which is how quickly a new client can book: a service menu with starting prices, reviews where people see them, a short story about the stylists, and a one-tap way to book from a phone. Inquiries doubled in the first 30 days.

Keeping your Google traffic through the switch

The biggest risk in a redesign is losing the search traffic you already have. Before I change anything, I list the pages that bring people in. Those keep their web addresses where I can, and every page that has to move gets a permanent redirect from the old address to the new one, so Google and old bookmarks land in the right place.

After launch I send the new sitemap to Google and Bing, so the new pages are picked up quickly instead of waiting for the next crawl.

How it works.

  1. Audit

I look at your current site first: what loads slowly, what confuses visitors, and which pages Google already sends people to.

  2. Keep what works

Pages that rank keep their addresses where I can, and anything that has to move gets a permanent redirect, so search traffic carries over.

  3. Rebuild

I design and hand-build the new site and show progress as it comes together, starting with a first look within 24 hours.

  4. Launch & support

I launch it and run the hosting; you get a simple dashboard to edit it yourself, and optional ongoing support.

Who you work with.

MakeAndUpdate is a studio of one: I design the layout, write the code, and ship the site.

No account managers, no handoffs, and I reply within one business day.

Common questions.

How much does a website redesign cost?

It depends on how many pages you have and what the new site needs to do, so I do not publish a price list. I scope your redesign and send a fixed quote before any work begins, so there are no surprises later.

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It should not. Before I change anything I note which pages already bring people in, keep their addresses where I can, and redirect anything that has to move.

How long does a website redesign take?

You see a first working version within 24 hours. Most websites go live in 2–3 days once the content is ready. Larger sites take a few weeks, depending on how many pages move and how quickly feedback comes back.

Can you redesign a WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace site?

Yes. I rebuild on WordPress, on Shopify for stores, or as a hand-coded site, whichever fits how you work. Where it makes sense I bring your existing text, photos, and pages across, so you are not starting from zero.

Should I redesign my website or just fix it?

Send me the link and I will tell you honestly. If lighter images, clearer copy, and a few fixes would do the job, I will quote that instead of a rebuild. The free audit is the quickest way to find out.

Who handles the domain and hosting after the redesign?

I do. From launch on, I run the hosting and look after the domain, so renewals and keeping the site online are my job, not another item on your to-do list.
