Does my business need a blog?

Probably not a blog, no. What you actually need is a handful of pages that answer the real questions customers ask you before they buy. Whether those pages live under "Blog" or somewhere else on your site matters far less than whether they answer something a real person is searching for.

In plain English

Think of it like a shop counter. Nobody wants a stack of pamphlets about your company history, but everyone wants a straight answer to "do you do same-day repairs?" A blog written for its own sake is the pamphlet pile. A page that answers a question you get asked every week is the answer at the counter.

Three things to know

01

Write down the questions first

Keep a list of what customers ask on the phone and in emails for two weeks, then make each recurring question its own page.

02

Depth beats frequency

Six thorough pages covering one subject well teach search engines that you know that subject, which is worth far more than fifty thin posts about everything.

03

Clear answers get quoted

AI tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI answers pull from pages that state an answer plainly near the top, so lead with the answer instead of burying it.

Worth remembering

Ahrefs studied roughly 14 billion web pages in 2023 and found that 96.55% of them get zero traffic from Google.

Publishing more pages does not automatically bring in visitors, and most published content brings in none at all. That is the argument against blogging on a schedule and for writing only the pages that answer a question someone is genuinely typing into a search box.
